1. Preparing the Container and Wick
Wash and dry the container thoroughly, ensuring it is completely dry and free of moisture and oil, to prevent wax from falling off after filling.
Apply adhesive (some wicks come with it) to the bottom of the wick and place it in the center of the container. Use a holder or chopsticks to hold the top vertically.
2. Melting the Wax
Weigh the wax according to the size of the container (for example, a 100ml container requires 80-90g of wax, as the wax will expand as it melts).
Add water to a pot and place the wax in a stainless steel bowl. Heat the water bath (no higher than 80°C), stirring gently with a stirring rod until the wax is completely melted into a clear liquid with no particles remaining.
3. Perfuming and Filling the Wax
After turning off the heat, allow the wax to cool to 55-60°C (too high a temperature will inflate the essential oils, while too low a temperature will cause the wax to solidify and prevent even mixing). Add essential oil at a rate of 5%-8% of the wax weight (e.g., 5-8ml of essential oil per 100g of wax). Stir rapidly for 30 seconds to 1 minute to ensure the essential oil and wax are fully incorporated and there are no separations.
Slowly pour the mixed wax into the container, avoiding bubbles and pouring too quickly. Fill the container until it is 90% full, leaving room for cooling and shrinkage.
4. Cooling, Shaping, and Finishing
Let the candle cool naturally (avoid refrigeration, as the temperature difference can cause cracking). This usually takes 4-6 hours. Remove the wick holder once it is completely solidified.
Use scissors to trim the wick to a length of 1-1.5cm (too long will produce black smoke, too short will be difficult to ignite). Wipe off any wax residue before use.
